Hello Simple Stories friends!
We have almost made it to 2021, and I don’t know about you, but I am certainly ready to say goodbye to 2020. With that, let’s ring in the new year with the adorable, new Sweet Talk collection.
This layout of my daughter and her boyfriend warms my heart – they are great kids who share a wonderful friendship that I love documenting.
To create the background, I chose four patterned papers to use with the Simple Stories Sectioned Heart cut file (187132) from the Silhouette shop. After cutting the heart four times, I used sketch pens to draw the cut file onto the striped background paper. This made piecing the heart back together again a breeze.
Next, I doodled a border on each of the cute pieces of patterned paper and adhered them using foam squares so they’d pop off of the page.
Now, let’s talk about happy accidents, of which I have become an expert at creating. Originally, I’d planned on using the Scattered Hearts stencil with acetate and crackle medium. However, after applying the mousse to the acetate and letting it dry, the hearts peeled and came off. Of course.
Rather than throw everything in the garbage, I salvaged a few of the hearts and glued them to the photo. If you try this technique, be mindful that the dried medium is very fragile and I went through quite a few hearts before I finally got them glued down in one piece.
Embellishments were next, and I used a bit of everything. This collection has so many die cuts and stickers to choose from . . . I love them all.
Documenting the special friendships and relationships in my family’s life is a very important part of memory keeping and I know they will appreciate one day in the future (more so than now). The Sweet Talk collection is perfect for doing that very thing, and I can’t wait to use it to record more of the special people I hold so dear.
Have a great day and a happy new year!
