Merry and Bright! by Jennifer McMurtrey

Hello friends!

It’s Jen today with the first of what I hope will be many Christmas projects this season. To get started documenting my favorite Christmas memories, I am using the beautiful Simple Vintage Rustic Christmas collection.

Let’s take a look at the 12 x 12 layout.

I love the Simple Pages Templates and decided to use Design 5 on this project, which features four 4 x 4 squares. Doing so made quick work of creating the base for the layout.

To get started, I selected the Coal/Marshmallow paper from the 12 x 12 Basics Kit for the background. Next, I placed the template on the background and secured it with washi tape. I decided to angle the template so it looks like a diamond and have it placed slightly off the page for visual interest.

With the template still in place, I cut four 4 x 4 squares of patterned paper and adhered them to the background page. I cut two additional sets of squares and decreased the size of each by ¼ inch each time.

After layering the squares atop one another, I removed the page template and machine stitched across the points of the squares. The stitching runs top-to-bottom and left-to right through the center of each.

The last step in building the background for the layout, was to stamp the Merry Christmas sentiment and stars around the perimeter of the squares with the Simple Vintage Rustic Christmas Stamps.

Embellishments were next and I used several elements from the Simple Vintage Rustic Christmas 6x12 Chipboard, Bits & Pieces, and Chipboard Clusters. Next, I added the photos to the Chipboard Frame and attached it to the page using foam strips. Doing so allowed me to create a secret pocket behind the photo on the right where I placed my journaling on a 3 x 4 cut away that I fussy cut down to size.

To complete the layout, I added the Believe Foam Sticker sentiment on top of the frame to create the title. I followed that with a few enamel dots around the edges to create a visual triangle.

Here is one more look at the finished project.

Thank you for stopping by today, and I hope you’ve been inspired to get some of your favorite memories documented. The Simple Vintage Rustic Christmas Collection is absolutely stunning and perfect for all of your holiday projects!
