Love Love Love! by Jen McMurtrey

Love Love Love! by Jen McMurtrey
Hello friends! It’s Jen today with a layout using the new Simple Stories Happy Hearts Collection. While this collection is definitely geared towards Valentine’s Day, I plan to use it in a variety of ways beginning with this cute photo of my husband and me taken last summer

Each year on July 11, we drive to the nearest 7-Eleven store for a free Slurpee. This was traditionally done with our kids when they were younger; however, this past summer was just us two since they are older and doing their own thing.

The Happy Hearts Collection is full of bright colors and cute embellishments that I love. Since there is a lot going on with the patterns, I chose white cardstock as the base and printed the photo in black and white.

After selecting several patterned papers, I cut them down in size and distressed the edges. Next, I machine stitched along the top and bottom borders of each to adhere them to the page. In addition to the papers that back the photo, I added two strips at the top of the layout to add more color and dimension.

After adding the photo, I added embellishments atop the picture, between the layers of patterned paper, and to the right of the photo. Next, I added the title using foam stickers, chipboard, and fussy-cut LOVE from a 4x6 cutaway card. Once the title was in place, I tucked a few embellishments in with the letters and added ink for more color.

Looking at the completed project, the record player and cassette tapes are my favorite elements because they remind me of our younger days. They are the perfect addition to the layout.

At the point when I thought the layout was finished, I decided to add a few flowers, dots, and leaves to the photo using the Happy Hearts 6x6 Stencil – Floral Heart and a black Sharpie. The result is subtle but adds just enough to give the photo and extra bit of oomph.

Now that I have this memory recorded, I plan to use more of the Happy Hearts Collection to create Valentines for friends and family. I look forward to seeing your creations as well. Remember to tag Simple Stories when posting to social media so we don’t miss your amazing projects!

Thank you for stopping by today, and I hope you’ve been inspired to document those sweet memories with your loved ones!
