Hello friends! Amber Mitchell here on the Simple Stories blog today to share with you a fun birthday-themed journal that I created using the ‘Simple Cards Card Kit’ from the CELEBRATE collection.
When it comes to paper crafting, I’m a huge fan of mini albums and journals; so, it’s no surprise that my first thought upon seeing the ‘Card Kit’ was “How can I transform this into a mini album?”
To do just that, I started by creating the base. I used five of the eight card templates from the kit to do this. I first folded them each in half, then stacked them one on top of the next. I used an awl to pierce holes at ½ inch intervals down the center. I then used pink embroidery floss and a needle to hand-stitch the binding into place, using a saddle-stitch.
Next, I matted every page of the journal using both the mats included in the ‘Card Kit’ and papers from the 6 x 8-inch paper pad. I trimmed all of these mats to 4 x 5 ¼ inch in size.
With the base of the journal complete, I moved on to my personal favorite part—embellishing! The ‘Card Kit’ comes with everything you’d need to embellish this journal, although, since I LOVE a good, chunky book, I did pull a few more bits and pieces from the collection to add here and there.
For some of the pages in the journal, I followed the sample card templates that came in the ‘Card Kit’. This made embellishing a good chunk of this journal quick and easy. Plus, I loved the designs!
Throughout the rest of the journal, I created flip up cards and tuck spots to add some interactive elements to the project as a whole. I love that these additions add even more room for photos and journaling.
Since I’ll be using this album to document my birthday festivities next month, I added the number “30” to one of the first pages in the album using the ‘Number Bits’.
A few extra embellishments, like the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the ‘Chipboard Stickers’, along with a few ‘Decorative Brads’, 'Puffy Stickers', and some florals from the ‘Bits and Pieces’ pack, tied everything throughout this album nicely together.
The last finishing touches were, of course, a cute dangle made up of paper tassels and bauble charms, and a braided tie closure in coordinating colors to the CELEBRATE collection.
I love creating handmade journals, and even more so when they’re simple to put together. The ‘Simple Cards Card Kit’ made this entire process super fun and I definitely recommend giving a project like this a try! I’m so excited to fill up this journal with some happy, birthday memories!
Thanks so much for stopping by my post today! I’ll see you next time with another fun project!
