For The Record Mini Album

For The Record Mini Album

Hey everyone! This is Niki (@nikiclairecreates) and I’m super excited to share a mini-album with you today using the For the Record Collection! The album structure itself is very easy to make: it’s just a front cover, covered in patterned paper and then little patterned paper pages inside with lots of photos and embellishments added!

The album documents a day out with my little boy – he has been learning about the Great Fire of London 1666 at school, and has been totally captivated by the subject, so we went on a little adventure to London to visit the Monument and climb all 311 steps up to the top (phew, that was a struggle!!), and then to visit Pudding Lane. There are also some photos in there of a model he made of the fire too. There was never going to be a themed collection about the Great Fire of London, lol, so I’d been looking to use something quite generic with bold colours in it to document these photos – and For the Record was PERFECT!

I started off with the outer cover, which I just cut from a piece of white card. I then covered it with the gorgeous bold colourful striped paper on the outside. I then covered the inside with yellow patterned paper. You will find a diagram at the end of this blog post with all the measurements.

I cut my pages mostly from the 6x8 paper pad. I layered these inside each other to create two little booklets. I then placed these in the spine and machine stitched them in place for a really firm hold. My machine stitching then showed through on the outside edge of the spine, so I just covered it up using another strip of the same striped paper.

Then I started decorating! I used a title from the Foam Stickers on the front cover ‘happy together’ together with some Journaling Bits, Floral Bits and Chipboard. I also added a piece of ribbon around the outside of the whole album so I could tie it closed.

On the inside of the front and back covers, I used larger Journaling Bits and pieces cut from the Journaling Elements patterned paper. Of course, I also added lots more pretty Bits: Bits & Pieces, Floral Bits, and some Decorative Brads and Cardstock Stickers.

For my internal pages, at only 3x3” I could only use small embellishments, especially as I had 26 photos to fit in too! I utilized all the small pieces from the Cardstock Stickers, Floral Bits, Journaling Bits, Bits & Pieces and Sentiment Bits. I also used lots of Decorative Brads throughout the album and a few Foam Stickers too.

Those little tags from the 6x8 paper pads are an excellent size for mini albums! I used a few of these which I tied through with various different ribbons. I used some of these just for decoration but some I used to add journaling too.

I made some of the pages interactive: there are two pocket pages, one concertina fold out page and two flip-out pages. I love having interactive elements in my mini albums. Some of the pages are for photos, some are just for journaling and some are just decorative. It’s great to have a mixture throughout!

I absolutely loved making this project, it was so fun to make and the For the Record collection was perfect and so easy to create with! I hope you have enjoyed reading about it too. There is a process video that shows the process of making the album structure which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/geC-VIlUC0s   It also contains a flip-through of the final finished album so you can see all the interactive elements and details! I hope you enjoy it.

Happy scrapping

Niki xx
