Enjoy the Ride! by Amber Mitchell

Enjoy the Ride! by Amber Mitchell

Hi crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on the Simple Stories blog today to share with you this super cute, travel-themed mini album I created with the new ‘Let’s Go’ collection.

I have to be honest, I’m a bit of a homebody so I don’t do too much travelling myself. But, after seeing this collection and working with it, I’ve found myself wishing for a vacation just so I have some photos to document in this mini album.

To create the base of this mini album, I started with three pieces of medium weight chipboard. These pieces will be used to create the front cover, the spine, and the back cover of the base.

The measurements for these pieces are as follows:

  • Front cover – 2.5 x 4 inches
  • Spine – 1.5 x 4 inches
  • Back Cover – 4 x 5 inches

I wrapped these pieces using two papers from the 12 x 12 Collection Kit. I distressed one of these papers by tearing the edge to give the base more character. I then lined the inside of the album using a plaid patterned paper.

To create the pocket that will hold the mini album itself, I used a sheet of paper that measured 5.5 x 6.75 inches. I scored this on the 5.5-inch side at 2 inches on both ends. I then scored on the 6.75-inch side at 1.5 inches on both ends.

To assemble the template into a box, I turned the squares in the center into tabs. To give the pocket more character, I used a large 2-inch circle punch to punch an impression on the front of it. I then adhered the pocket to the base of the project.

When it came to designing the mini album for this project, I brainstormed a few different ideas, but, in the end, settled on a disc bound one.

I took 3 x 4 and 4 x 4 element cards from the 12 x 12 Collection Kit, along with a few extra pieces from the Journaling Bits, and turned those into pages. I bound these pages using 4 discs in two different colors.

With the base of the album done, I moved on to embellishing.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, one of my favorite things about Simple Stories collections is that there are so many different embellishments to work with. I love the texture that these various bits add throughout projects so, as usual, I used a little bit of everything.

To decorate the cover, I used a car from the Chipboard Stickers to act as a centerpiece. I layered up a floral from the Page Pieces behind that and added a Decorative Brad and sentiment from the Cardstock Stickers on top to act as a title.

Throughout the actual album, I also included some pieces from the Sticker Book, Puffy Stickers, Foam Stickers and Bits & Pieces.

In my usual fashion, to finish off this album I added a little clip of tassels and charms to the album itself.

Thanks so much for stopping by my post today! I’ll see you next time with another fun project!
