A Magical Mini

A Magical Mini

Hi crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on the Simple Stories blog today to share with you a festive mini album I created using the new Simple Vintage: Christmas Lodge collection.

It’s no secret that the holiday season is my favorite time of year. I just love everything about it! This collection is full all of the fun, traditional things that I love about the season.
To create the covers of this mini album, I used two sheets of medium weight chipboard that measured 4.5 x 7 inches. I wrapped these using the ‘Good Cheer’ patterned paper from the 12 x 12 Collection Kit.
To create the spine, I used a sheet of paper that measured 5 x 6.75 inches. I scored this paper on the 5-inch side at 1.5 inches on both ends. I then folded and creased on these score lines, which created tabs on either end of the paper. I used these tabs to adhere the spine to the inside of both of my covers. For an added touch of texture, I opted to also adhere a thin sheet of acetate around the spine.
Once the spine was adhered into place, I lined the inside covers using cardstock from the coordinating 12 x 12 Basics Kit.
When it came to creating the pages for this album, I knew that I wanted to have layers. To create this effect, I used three sheets of white cardstock that measured 6.75 x 7.5 inches. I scored these papers on the 7.5-inch side at 3 and 3.5 inches. This gives all of the pages a half inch gusset which makes adding dimensional embellishments easier.
I adhered the pages to the spine of my album, distancing them evenly across the width of it.
Next, I matted each page with patterned paper from the collection and then added photo mats on top. I used three different sizes of photo mats in this album: 2 x 2, 3 x 4, and one large one that measured 3.5 x 6.25 inches.
Finally, I embellished the album using all of the fun bits from the Christmas Lodge collection. I used a large doily from the Chipboard Clusters to create the base for a statement piece on the front cover. I layered up icons from the Bits & Pieces die cuts on top of this, and added a Chipboard Sticker sentiment on top to create a title.
On the smaller pages, I created flower clusters using cut files from Paige Evans. I wanted these flowers to mimic holly, since that's such a staple icon of the season.
Throughout the rest of the album, I used stickers and die cuts, including the Decorative Brads and Cardstock Stickers, to embellish around each photo mat. I also included a few journaling spots by adding cut-aparts to empty spaces.
I finished off the album with a dangle made of a mix of charms and tassels, and also added some stickers to the spine itself.
I love the warmth and cheer that this mini album has to it and I can’t wait to fill it up with happy holiday memories! Thanks so much for stopping by my post today. I’ll see you next time with another fun project!
