Meka Allen's Blog Posts

Hey planner friends!  It’s Meka here, living, loving, and planning with you today on the Simple Stories blog. This month I’m working on my home binder. The Domestic Bliss scrapbooking collection and the Home Carpe Diem planner collection are all about creating a happy home filled with love, laughter, and… laundry!

I’m using these lines to set up my new grape Carpe Diem planner. Grape is an in-your-face, fear-no-color shade of purple! It’s stunning, but I’ll admit it-- I wasn’t as ready for the color burst as I thought I was. I used some of the softer prints and designs from the Domestic Bliss line to tone down the grape a little bit. I’ve also added other soft touches like pale yellow, doilies, and ribbon trim. This allows me to enjoy the richness of the grape Carpe Diem, without being overwhelmed by it. You can see glimpses of these elements throughout the planner.

Using elements from the Bits and Pieces, and the SN@P! Pack, I stuffed my front pockets with planner goodies that make me smile.

Chipboard stickers and Decorative Bradz make fun planner clips. These simple paper clip diy’s were created in a flash with some miscellaneous embellishments from my scrap stash.

If you take a close look at the dashboard, you may notice the pink polka dotted pattern from the Posh Carpe Diem collection. I thought this pale pink was a perfect complement to the vibrant grape, so I used it as the base of the dashboard. I then cut and layered some of the 6x8 paper pad sheets on top of it. This paper pad has lots of sheets that I also used for more dividers and tabs.

The Home Bookmark tablet was a must for listing out tasks. I love that there’s a checklist built into the format. The backside of the tablet was plain cardboard, so I covered it with coordinating paper from the 6x8 paper pad, and a doily. This would be a convenient place to add some family photos, quick-reference phone numbers, or a daily routine.

My first layout is a weekly home cleaning schedule that I’m trying out. The 4x6 sticker pack and the sticker tablet had everything I needed to plan out a weekly routine. I used the Vertical Hourly A5 Carpe Diem inserts, not to give myself a strict schedule, but for an overall idea of my daily flow.

As a motivator, I created a memory page for my next layout. It documents those days when I’m a serious domestic diva, demolishing my to-do list two checks at a time!

I love the blend of humor and heart in the Domestic Bliss collection. Check your favorite scrapbooking and craft stores for this line today. Be sure to stop by and visit me anytime at

Hey planner girls! It’s Meka with you on the blog today. I just got my hands on the new Clover green A5 Carpe Diem planner and goodies from the beautiful Faith collection. I’m excited to share with you how I set up my Faith planner.

The collection includes the stickers, Sn@p! Pack journaling cards, Bits and Pieces, and decorative clips we’ve come to love, plus some new products we haven’t seen.

This release has added a variety of Planner Decals. I chose the “start each day with a grateful heart” decal. The instructions on the package made adhering it to the front of my planner a breeze. I accentuated the quote with a lighthearted sheep sticker from the Clear Stickers pack.

I added a few more clear stickers to the bottom front pocket, and stuffed the pockets with Bits and Pieces die cuts, journaling cards, and a few other embellishments. I’ll add to this “Inspired” journaling card as time goes on.

The Faith collection has a fabulous A5 planner Insert Set! It makes it super easy to set up a faith planner. The tabs come blank, but there are pre-printed sticker labels included.

I used the Faith floral bookmark tablet to brainstorm some section ideas. Since only some of my ultimate section names were among the pre-printed stickers, for consistency I handwrote all of mine on the reinforced tabs with a Sharpie.

I then decorated the first divider page as my dashboard. I trimmed this “Be Still” sheet from the new coordinating 6x8 paper pad, and layered it on top of another to stand out a bit from the background. A few ribbon embellishments softened up the design a bit more.

Next I divided the included inserts amongst the sections that worked for me. These “Inspired” inserts from the kit were perfect for my “Inspiration” tab.

An Inserts planner section is a must for organizing extra blank pages, journaling cards, and stickers. Speaking of stickers— YES PLEASE! to these pre-punched A5 sticker sheets that are included in the Faith insert set! I added a length of the collection washi tape along the margin of all three sticker inserts.

There’s also a pocket insert page that will house items I’ll need while using my planner.

That didn’t stop me from playing with one more sheet from the 6x8 paper pad! They make easy-peasy mini folders! I folded the 6x8 sheet in half, trimmed a few millimeters off the edge, cut off a corner from the top half of the fold, punched holes, and added simple adornment to the front.

My last bit of décor for now is this clear “believe” sticker that I added to the inside of my Clover Carpe Diem strap. This will give me a sweet reminder every time I open my Faith planner.

All of these supplies will be available from Simple Stories retailers next month! I hope my Faith planner setup inspires you to get started with yours! Now that I’m all set up, I’m eager to get started along this new journey of documenting my faith. Come visit me anytime at

Hey planner friends! It’s Meka today here on the Simple Stories blog. I’m bringing my Carpe Diem planner into 2017 with the Winter Wonderland collection.  This is a great kit with some non-traditional colors mixed in for those of us who live in places where the weather seldom feels, and the scenery rarely looks truly wintery.

My front pockets have been decorated with cheery winter icons and words from the Bits and Pieces pack, and stuffed with planner goodies I’ll be using over the next couple of weeks.

I absolutely adore the Silver White Winter 12x12 cardstock pattern. I’ve left it unadorned as my first divider, with just the original Reset Girl Choose to Shine transparent Carpe Diem planner dashboard as an overlay. The cutie pie snowman is attached to it with a jumbo paperclip affixed sideways.

The 4x6 sticker pack included narrow labels and stickers trips that were perfect for labeling divider tabs. Just a small snip off the end of the labels and it’s just about the simplest bit of fun and function you can do!

Still in vacation mode last week, I opted for a journal-style spread for this layout. The horizontal inserts that come with Posh boxed planner kit are perfect for letting free-form thoughts flow.

Perhaps too free-flowing, I re-learned a lesson– always jot down the week’s events before starting in on a layout! I totally fudged my dates, but a 3x4 journaling card element adorned with a few stickers was all it took to set the story straight.

This week it’s back to business. I used the Planner Essentials vertical format weekly inserts to record the week’s priorities. The pages were decorated with planner favorites— layers of stickers and coordinating washi tapes from the Winter Wonderland collection. This time I added watercolor to the page at the end. It worked out well to blend and tie in some of the elements on the page.

Oh, and that not-so-wintery weather I mentioned? That gave me cause to transform a “100% chance of snow” sticker into something a bit more appropriate for this 75 degree January climate!

I hope you enjoyed this Winter Wonderland setup in my pretty ivory Carpe Diem planner.  Come visit me at Hope you’re having a happy new year!
