June Guest Designer - Emily Spahn

Hello Simple Stories fans, Layle here with you today :)

I'm excited to introduce you to our June guest designer Emily Spahn -

Here's a little bit about Emily -

Hi! I’m Emily Spahn. I’m so excited to be the Simple Stories guest designer for June!  I am a mom, a wife, a music teacher, a wannabe photographer, and, of course, a scrapbooker! My family and I recently moved to Madison, WI area after a decade in the Chicagoland. We bought a 90 year old home and are enjoying being closer to family and exploring our new state.  I am taking a short break from teaching to stay at home with my family, which includes my three cool kiddos Mirielle (5), Henry (3), Oliver (9 months), and my husband Justin.  I started scrapbooking in about fifth grade, when I made my first meticulously crafted page using white typing paper and a hand-drawn crayon title.  It was spectacular.  I’ve been hooked ever since!  In the past six years I’ve been scrapping more seriously, and I’ve been lucky enough to be on a number of design teams and published in many different magazines. I am currently on the design teams at Gossamer Blue and Pebbles.  I am an 8.5 x 11 scrapper, and my style is colorful and fun with a focus on the little details. I love color and pattern and had fabulous time using the new Good Day Sunshine collection!

Before I share Emily's gorgeous work this month, I thought I'd kick off a little something fun starting this month with our guest designers - 8 statements that they'll respond to about themselves.  Here are the statements & Emily's responses -

Scariest Thing – Drive-thrus. I totally went through one backwards once. Don’t ask… ;)

Favorite Snack – Hummus and Pita Chips

Can’t Figure Out – How to stop losing my phone! ;)

Match Made in Heaven – Peanut butter, chocolate and bananas

Probably Shouldn’t Have –  Bought those sea salt caramels from Costco…mmmm.

Current Addiction – Buying old stuff on Craigslist – I’ve been outfitting our home in all kinds of great old pieces.

Bringing to the Party – The entertainment (aka: 3 crazy kids)

Words to Live By – Be yourself – everyone else is already taken. J (Oscar Wilde)

Fun, huh?!

Allrighty, now let's get to the good stuff!

Emily's first project - Summer Smiles - along with some of her thoughts on the layout -

I absolutely love the strip of cloud paper with the text that is a part of the 6x12 Elements patterned paper.  I used this as the base of my layout and embellished around it.  I layered two pieces of yellow chipboard to make my “fun” sun and used some vellum from my stash to create some simple rays out from it.  This bright, sunny, collection was perfect for these photos of my silly kids playing in the water last summer!

Next up is Emily's 2nd project - Picking Strawberries in Door County

I often create long (probably too long!) titles with alphabet stickers.  These wood grain stickers were just the perfect size for my descriptive title.  Door County is a beautiful area in Wisconsin that we visit multiple times every summer. This was our first time picking strawberries, and my daughter had a blast! The Good Day Sunshine stickers and Bits & Pieces die cuts added some fun to this summery layout. – especially the cute sunglasses die cut!!

Emily's final project for us this month – Week 7 Pocket Page Spread

As you can see, I am very, very behind on documenting 2014. ;)  Yes, I’m still back in February.  However, in spite of it’s summery theme, the Good Day Sunshine collection fit with my Valentine’s Day photos perfectly!!  There are great colors and lots of hearts and flowers and I always love a little woodgrain!

You might notice a few typos in my journaling – my typewriter does not have a correct ribbon, so when I make a mistake, I usually just roll with it it – I figure it keeps it authentic!! This week in February was actually a very cold dreary week in which my husband was traveling for work, but I still love this cheery spread!

Thanks so much Emily for sharing your fabulous work with us this month using our new Good Day Sunshine collection - I love all of your fun little details!!
